Ilya Chetverikov

A concert pianist based in Oxford, Ilya Chetverikov is a musician of international reputation, who was born in Moscow and brought up in rich tradition of Russian piano school. Ilya is a graduate of Gnessin’s Music Academy in Moscow as a pianist and a teacher. The undergraduate course for pianists at Gnessin Academy included not only lectures about teaching piano, but also practical work with young students under supervision of the professor of pedagogy. (Founder of the Institute, Elena Gnessina was a famous teacher and composer of many books of brilliant exercises for young pianists).

As a performer, Ilya has studied with renowned masters of the "Golden age" generation of artists Prof. Oleg Boshnyakovich, and iconic Russian virtuoso Prof. Mikhail Olenev. After completing his post-graduate course as a pianist, he went on gaining another qualification as a choral master of Orthodox church services, and has embarked in choral conducting in Moscow for several years.

His accolade includes laureate for many internal and international competitions as a pianist, as well as for choir direction and his dedication to his service for Christian community in Moscow.

He is in growing demand as a chamber musician across the UK, has toured in many cities and has made world premier recordings in chamber music, appearing in venues such as Sheldonian Theatre, SJE Arts, Dorchester Abbey, and in Oxford Town Hall. His recent performances include world premier performance of solo piano composition and Piano Trio by Jeremy Arden, which was streamed online from Holywell Music Room during the lockdown. This season he is due to appear in King’s Place London to give London premier of Arden’s work. As a duo recitalist, he has also been featured in concert series by Orchestra of St John’s, and played in a sold out concert at Hay Festival in 2022.

As accompanist he worked as official accompanist in Abingdon Concerto competition, numerous occasions on masterclasses, organised by Oxford Philomusica and entrance and final exams at Oxford University.

He teaches piano in a number of local school in Oxford and privately. Many of his students regularly receive highest awards in local music festivals, achieve top marks in ABRSM/Trinity exam board in piano and Theory. He is also known to prepare students successfully to independent school music scholarship auditions. His class concert are regularly held in prestigious venues with Steinway pianos.
