Matthew studied music at the Univeristy of Surrey and then pursued his postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music where he specialised in piano accompaniment. His teachers have included Clive Williamson, Michael Dussek & Graeme Humphrey.

Since leaving the Academy Matthew has worked as a freelance accompanist, chamber musician and orchestral pianist. Recent highlights include performances at the National Concert Hall in Dublin, and at the 2010 English Music Festival where he gave the world premiere performances of the recently rediscovered Violin sonatas by Arthur Bliss and Henry Walford Davies with the violinist Rupert Luck. Matthew has recorded a CD of these works alongside the violin sonata of York Bowen for the EM Records label, released in March 2011. Matthew has also played extracts from these works live on BBC Radio 3's "In Tune" programme. Other recent performances include concerts in Birmingham, Cambridge, Cirencester, Durham, Hitchin, Guildford, Oxford, Windsor and Woking.

Matthew has worked with many groups, including the CBSO, Moscow City Ballet, Thursford Christmas Spectacular, Guildford Opera Company, Hart Voices, Royal Free Music Society, Rushmoor Choir and Almaviva Opera.

Forthcoming plans include recitals at the 2011 English Music Festival, at the University of Bristol and appearancea in the Netherlands and France. A second recording with EM Records is also scheduled for later this year.

Matthew is available as an accompanist for exams, auditions, rehearsals and recitals.
