Early piano studies in Wellington with Lola Johnson. Self taught from the age of 14.
B.Mus(hons) cello performance with Wilfred Simenauer.
Church organist and choral director from age 19.
Studied singing with Maxwell Fernie in Wellington, then in London with Janice Chapman, David Harper, Mary King.
Performed in London as church musician on organ and piano, directing church music, duet recitals singing, played cello in orchestras, taught singing, cello, piano.
Returned to NZ in 1990, began conducting orchestras and choirs, musical director operas, inc. new opera for International Festival of the Arts in Wellington, premiere performances of NZ works with eg Wellington Sinfonia (now Vector Wellington Orchestra).
Attended various conducting masterclasses, including being one of six participants in Opera Conducting Masterclass in Constanta Romania, masterclasses with leading conductors and NZSO, Auckland Philharmonia.
Moved to Melbourne in 2007. Repetiteur work with Melbourne City Opera, conducting work with Australian Childrens Choir, freelance accompanying, teaching. Sing in Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Chorus. Teach singing, cello, piano. Compose.
Recent accompanying includes performances of Tosca in Melbourne and regional Victoria, performances with singers and string quartet for Viennese evenings in Sydney and Melbourne, Melbourne University performance exams inc 4th year recitals, VCASS auditions with high success rate, VCE exams, AMEB exams all levels, accompanying choirs.
