Jelena Cingara was born in 1976 in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia. While still a child, she received a high-quality musical education at "Isidor Bajic" elementary music school in Novi Sad, studying piano and music theory.
In 1991 Jelena moved to Toronto, Canada. In Toronto, Jelena attended the Royal Conservatory of Music, where she achieved grade 10 piano level, and studied various courses in music history and theory. In 2001, she completed her BA at The University of Toronto as a Piano Performance major, where she was a student of Dr. Boris Lysenko and Boyanna Toyich.
Following her university years, Jelena spent two summers at The Chautauqua Institution where she participated in masterclasses held by Rebecca Penneys, professor of piano at Eastman School of Music, USA. She also spent two summers in Rome, Italy performing in concerts with TIP "Monster" ensemble of 10 piano's 20 pianists.
In the winter of 2003, Jelena continued her musical education at The University of Toledo in Ohio where in 2005 she received her Masters Degree in Piano Performance, and was a student of Dr. Michael Boyd.
Jelena is currently a DMA in piano performance major at The University of Utah School of Music in Salt Lake City, where her major piano professor is Dr. Vedrana Subotic - a great pedagogue and performer! Recent activities involved playing for masterclasses for Nicholas Angelich, and in the future Elias Quartet with her "Trout Quintet". Jelena is also participating in the Chamber Music Competition at The University of Utah School of Music in March, 2013 as well giving a lobbyfest concert with violinist Bree Fortheingham on February 15, 2013. Jelena is currently a very active performer in the SLC area. Summer plans involve Interharmony Music Festival in Arcidosso, Italy as well as University of Utah Chamber Music Festival in SLC.
Jelena's career includes a series of solo, chamber, and collaborative international and national recitals, sixteen years of piano teaching,
international and national recitals, sixteen years of piano teaching, accompanying, and chamber music. Jelena is a prizewinner of numerous piano competitions such as: Davenport, Kiwanis in Toronto, Canada, as well as in the US. Throughout her career, she was also a recipient of numerous scholarships and a teaching assistanship. She is a professional, charismatic, driven, and dynamic pianist and individual.
