Albert Lin began his musical training on the piano at the age of 3, and was awarded the 3rd prize in the National Music Competition (Open Category) in Singapore. At the age of 16, he was the youngest student accepted into the Peabody Conservatory of Musics degree program where he majored in Piano Performance, with minors in voice and orchestral conducting. He served on the accompanying department, and also performed with all the major conservatory ensembles which included a tour of New York with Grammy-Award-Winning percussionist, Jonathan Haas. Later, he studied at the University of Michigan with Arthur Greene. He was awarded the Gold Medal at the Rochdale Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, and placed as a finalist at the California International Young Artists Competition.
Since returning to Singapore, Lin has been widely regarded as one of Singapores most versatile and active performers, having been invited to perform as soloist with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra in their Presidents Young Performers concert, the Philharmonic winds, the Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) Philharmonic Orchestra, the Braddell Heights Symphony Orchestra, Saigon Philharmonic, as well as the Singapore International Piano Festival. He has also been actively championing new music, especially the music of Singaporean composers, and has been dubbed the Darling of Singaporean composers and the Khoo Swee Chiow of the piano by The Straits Times for his adventurous programming. His performances have been praised by both local and international critics, with The Straits Times hailing him as a mature artist with a keen mind, and the Rochdale Daily remarking at his feat of herculean stamina allied with the sensitivity of a consummate poet for his performances of Rachmaninoffs 2nd and 3rd concerto in a single concert. Besides having performed 2 recitals dedicated to local works at the Esplanade, he has also performed at the International Computer Music Conference, the Singapore-Japan Composers Exchange Concert, and the 1st Ong Teng Cheong memorial concert. He has given the local and world premieres of works by Nikolai Kapustin, Lowell Liebermann, John Sharpley, Leong Yoon Pin, Joyce Bee Tuan Koh, and Zechariah Goh.
Recently, he partnered British violinist Nicola Benedetti in her recital in Singapore and has also performed with French soprano Emma Shapplin. He spent 3 months in residency with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
He was previously faculty accompanist at the School of The Arts, Singapore (SOTA) and is currently a music reviewer for The Straits Times.
