I am a graduate of the St. Petersburg Conservatory with an Ed.D., D.M.A., M. Mus(Hons) as a Master Piano Teacher, Pedagogue, Accompanist, Performer and Concert Master. After my post graduate studies at the Moscow Conservatory, I was rewarded with the distinction as Head of the Piano Faculty at the Professional Institute of Music in Chita, a most rewarding position I held for 7 years.
Upon returning to St. Petersburg, I joined the prestigious music department at the Mariinsky Theater home of the Kirov Ballet and Opera Theater. As an accompanist, I have extensive and intimate knowledge of the critical elements in providing the secret balance and "blend" between piano and the exceptional human talent of natures gift to voice. The demands are of Olympic proportions where only the best of the best will do. The rewards to both parties are beyond words . . . for the event is art all in its self.
The all important aspects of being a répétiteur is similar to a perfectly cut diamond where every facet is perfect. In musical terms, the balance between: Rhythm (the placement or position of sound in time)is possibly the most important element . . . but . . . also as important is the ability to "pick up" on the starting measure. Yes being a répétiteur to some is a challenge . . . to me I loved playing for the Kirov Ballet. The dancers, the strict structure, the precision of tempo and the all important aspect of trust must be there. Some prima ballerinas would only use their favored rehearsal pianist. This is the intimacy that juxtaposes with trust, for it is formed over a period of time. This same trust reaches beyond the keyboard, where I become a true assistant to the performer.
I now live in Vancouver Canada where I teach in the time honored Russian Technique. Three of my students recently took first place prizes in their respective age ranges, on the same day, in the International Young Mozart Piano Competition at Carnegie Hall. This was the first time in the history of this competition that three students from the same teacher were awarded First Prizes with a cash award to all three young musicians aged 11, 12 and 14.
The Canadian House of Commons Ottawa presented me with a Certificate of Commendation to mark the occasion on the dramatic success of a trio of winners at Carnegie Hall New York. I am deeply honored that the Government of Canada recognizes my Outstanding Work and Contributions in fostering the advancement of pianistic achievements as Master Teacher and Concert Pianist.
