Bernard is a pianist from Malaysia currently studying piano accompaniment in Birmingham Conservatoire under the tutelage of Dr. Robert Markham.
Bernard's greatest passion is in the art of vocal accompaniment and coaching. His vocal accompaniment experiences include Mondial Chinese Vocalist Concours 2014 (Taipei), 6th ASEAN Singing Competition (Bangkok), and Malaysia National Singing Competition Grand Finals, among others. He has also accompanied voice graduation recitals in various universities in Malaysia. In 2015, he participated in the Winter Journey Opera and Song Workshop in Thailand and has been coached by Michael Hampton of the Royal College of Music, and has been awarded the Best Pianist Award for this camp.
Bernard owns Licentiate Diplomas of Trinity College of London (LTCL, piano recital with Distinction) and Royal Schools of Music (LRSM, piano performance). As a versatile chamber musician, Bernard was selected as the pianist of Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO) from 2013 to 2015, and has performed as its orchestra pianist under the baton of Kevin Field and Fabian Russell in Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP). He has also performed as chamber pianist in the MPYO-MPO Chamber Concert Series and Music Jamboree 2015.
Bernard also enjoyed himself as a singer. Under the tutelage of Woon Chi Choong, he obtained ABRSM Grade 8 in Singing with Distinction in 2008. The understanding of human voice, its anatomy and the repertory of vocal music, he became a versatile vocal accompanist/coach.
Bernard was also a choir conductor and has attended various choral and conducting camps in Malaysia. He also played the bassoon in KLPAC Orchestra and UPM Symphony Orchestra.
