A native of Kuala Lumpur, Dr. Caryn Ong is an active piano pedagogue, music educator, and pianist. She is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Conservatory of Music, Universiti Teknologi MARA and a member of the Tunku Zain Piano Trio.

As an experienced piano instructor, Caryn worked with students of all ages and levels through individual and group settings. She had also garnered successful student assessments with international competitions and examination boards from the United Kingdom and Canada/USA. Her teaching was honored with a Teacher Certificate of Recognition by The Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) in Toronto. As an academician, Caryn has developed and taught undergraduate and postgraduate level courses on instrumental pedagogy, music interpretation, ensemble groups, music theory and aural skills, performance seminars, etc.

Caryn remains active in her research in piano pedagogy, which includes cross-cultural survey of teaching methods, progressive instruction for advanced literature, and teaching music theory in piano instruction. An active member of the Music Teachers National Association (USA) and the Malaysian Association for Music Education, she has presented frequently at national and international conferences.

Caryn is committed to performing and music collaboration. She has premiered new compositions by local and international composers.

Caryn graduated with a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Piano Pedagogy from the University of South Carolina and holds a Master of Music in Piano Performance from Texas State University, United States. Before that, she completed her Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Malaya, Malaysia. Her piano and piano pedagogy teachers include Sara Ernst, Scott Price, Joseph Rackers, Charles Fugo, Jason Kwak, and Kim Bo-kyung.
