Additional Info:
I recently moved to New York City after spending the last fourteen years running a children's theatre company in the midwest. With close to 200 shows under my belt as a director or producer, I have a passion for working with actors of all ages on their musical theatre repertoire, whether it be for an audition, a performance, or just for the enjoyment of exploration and self-discovery.
I am a capable sight-reader, and can almost always handle whatever you put down in front of me. That said, I am also not afraid to be honest about my limitations when I think that a particular piece is beyond my easy capabilities. My goal is to be a useful instrument in your success -- not get in the way at all.
My knowledge of musical theatre repertoire and history is excellent, and my awareness (from a coaching/directing angle) of the connection between artist, material, and audience is strong. I feel like I can be very useful helping you prepare for an upcoming audition, or even simply taking time to work through lots of different options to help discover material that fits you best.
I'm available for in-person work at my apartment* in Inwood (close to both the "A" train stop at 207th and the "1" train stop at 215th), or at your home or studio location in the NYC area. I'm able to accompany you to events that require you to bring your own pianist. I'm also willing to be enlisted for larger projects, such as accompanying a recital or cabaret performance.
I also have a fair amount of experience from years ago with classical vocal music (some opera repertoire, art songs, etc), although it's been quite a while since I did anything but musical theatre or material from the "Great American Songbook." In addition, I have also done a small amount of accompanying for instrumentalists.
In addition, I have an enormous amount of experience transcribing music from the page to the screen if something needs to be notated -- be it an original work or simply an existing piece that needs to be transcribed and then transposed.
