I have been professionally accompanying singers, instrumentalists, church and community ensembles, solo instrumentalists, and theater productions for over 40 years.
I began studying the art of accompanying from my mother, Mrs. Elaine K. Hunter. She was a master teacher, accomplished professional singer, choir director, and college professor.
In 7th grade, I had the privilege to play the full score of the musical, "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," and to lead the small group of junior high instrumentalists as we accompanied this full length production.
In high school, I was thrilled to play entire scores for these Broadway musicals: "Once Upon a Mattress," "Annie Get Your Gun," plus single numbers from musicals "The Sound of Music," "Porgy and Bess," "South Pacific" and "Guys and Dolls."
I graduated with a major in Elementary Education with a minor in music from Southwestern Baptist Bible College, Phoenix, Arizona, in 1986.
For over 30 years, I was the church pianist, and played for three services per week, in addition to helping prepare soloists and ensembles for performance.
In 2016, I played a gig at the Cavecreek Restaurant, called Venue, to accompany Marie Gouba in a 20 song Broadway Cabaret.
A more recent performing gig, Valentine dinner party, (in 2016), was held in the Biltmore area, where I played 3 hrs of Sinatra, show tunes, etc, while folks sang and danced.
Weddings, funerals, corporate events, family gatherings, retreats, church services, festive celebrations, cantatas, oratorios, undergraduate junior and senior graduate recitals, all are in my experience base!
I have enjoyed teaching private piano lessons for over 35 yrs. As a classically trained pianist, my own private students begin lessons with classical fundamentals, but also study jazz, country western, pop and rock!
Having been told I am a gifted sight-reader, tackling new music on site is a particular joy! This skill has been a blessing when accompanying choirs, professional musicians, and drama troupes.
In May 2017, I held my 20th studio recital, and in early May, my students were adjudicated at the National Piano Playing Guild Auditions, and received Superior and Superior Plus marks.
I would be thrilled to provide the piano music for your event, and look forward to working with your particular needs!
