Edward Cohen has established himself as one of the most versatile and in-demand pianists in Scotland. Equally at home as a concerto soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, choral accompanist, or educator, he regularly collaborates with leading musicians in major performance venues and festivals in his home country and beyond.
Edward is the pianist for the choruses of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and other renowned choirs he has worked with recently include the Edinburgh Festival Chorus, the National Youth Choir of Scotland, and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra Chorus. He regularly works with the world's leading conductors including Sir Andrew Davis, Gustavo Dudamel, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, and Thomas Søndergård. His playing has been broadcast extensively around the globe, most recently at the Eurovision Young Musicians competition which was produced by BBC Arts Digital and Radio 3 and seen and heard on live television worldwide.
Edward has played for masterclasses given by Nicola Benedetti, Ian Bousfield, Karen Cargill, Malcolm Martineau, János Starker, and David Watkin, and is an official accompanist for Aberdeen International, Ayrshire, Edinburgh International, and Glasgow Festivals as well as the professional orchestras of Scotland’s central belt.
Beyond his native Europe, recital activity has taken Edward to India, Russia, the Far East, and across the USA, including a performance for HM The Queen. He has made numerous appearances at the BBC Proms as a soloist, in chamber ensemble, and with Cardiff Singer of the World mezzo-soprano Catriona Morison. He frequently performs with the Artisan and Beinn Artair Trios, the Barony and Red Note Ensembles, Daniel's Beard, Opera Alba, flautist Katherine Bryan, and clarinettist Jean Johnson.
Edward is a Lecturer in Accompaniment at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where he has created all of the new accompaniment modules available to students. Additionally, he has established a unique training programme focusing on working as a rehearsal pianist for symphonic choruses in partnership with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Much of his teaching work at the conservatoire centres around the skills required of collaborative pianists, such as sight-reading, working with instrumentalists and singers, and improvisation for dance. Edward is a principal study piano teacher for the universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh, and has given masterclasses at higher education institutions at home and abroad.
