My name is Esme Wong and I am a Malaysian classical pianist who was raised in a diverse and multicultural background. I grew up speaking three languages and lived in three countries. I enjoyed versatile performances and have performed a wide range of works from early music to contemporary music.
I have over 10 years of experience in accompanying vocalists, instrumentalists, choir and chamber music. Furthermore, I am also a vocal coach who prepares musical and diction insights for classical singer to prepare for their young artist program's auditions, professional engagements and music directs opera performance.
I recently joined The Druid City Opera Workshop at University of Alabama as Collaborative Pianist and was one of their music directors of opera scenes. I was also invited to work for Red River Lyric Opera the summer of 2019 as the Assistant Conductor of the production of Rossini’s La Ceneretola. I am thrilled to be invited to join Nashville Opera in their 2020 Mary Ragland Emerging Artist Program as the music director of the Nashville Opera ON TOUR! production and Opera Out Loud Scenes Program.
My past appearances include coaching and performance of the North American Premiere of Coronide opera by Vit Zuhar, world premiere performance of In Flanders Fields by Robert Beaser, presentation of song cycle by Augusta Holmes at Mississippi University for Women, and performance of vocal collaborative works in SongFest at Colburn Conservatory where she worked with coaches and living composers including Kayo Iwama, Graham Johnson, Martin Katz, Alan Smith, Jake Heggie and Libby Larsen.
I am currently a freelance collaborative pianist and a staff pianist at Texas Woman’s University in Denton, TX. I hold a master’s degree in Collaborative Piano from the University of North Texas where I studied with Dr. Elvia Puccinelli and Dr. Steven Harlos. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Music from Luther College where I studied with Dr. Du Huang. I have studied extensively with Dr. Jessical Paul, Miko Kominami, Yap Chiew Phin, Igor Cognolato, and Cristina Santin throughout my musical journey.
