Currently I work as a freelance accompanist, regularly playing for concerts, examinations and festivals, and also working privately with singers. Between 2007 and 2011 I worked as an accompanist for the Head of Vocal Studies at Birmingham Conservatoire, where I accompanied undergraduate singers in repertoire classes. In addition, I played for lessons, end of year vocal examinations, and took part in Liederabends.
Recently I acted as the accompanist in the world premiere of a new song cycle with the distinguished English tenor, Gordon Pullin, and in 2007 I was involved in the award winning BBC programme "The Choir - Boys Don't Sing" with Gareth Malone.
Since 2003 I have worked as one of the official accompanists at the Leamington Spa Music Festival, and I have also worked for the Lichfield, Hinckley and Nuneaton Muic Festivals, as well as the Rendcomb Opera Course. Other regular performance and accompanying work includes working with singers and instrumentalists of all ages and levels of ability, and school and university choirs in concerts, recitals, festivals, examinations, workshops, lessons and mediaeval banquets.
I read Music at the University of East Anglia, and graduated with an honours degree in 2000. During there I specialized in performance, particularly piano accompaniment, and music analysis. I continued my studies at the University of York where I was awarded a full scholarship and obtained an MA in Music in 2001. I went on to complete a Postgraduate Diploma in Piano Accompaniment at Birmingham Conservatoire. As an extremely keen accompanist I worked closely with many singers and instrumentalists at the Conservatoire, and acted as the accompanist in the Italian, French and German language classes where I was able to develop my particular interest in Lieder and French melodie.
