Genevieve Ellis is the Assistant Chorus Master of the Royal Opera, Covent Garden.
She read music at Selwyn College, Cambridge and pursued further training at the Royal Academy of Music and Flanders Opera Studio. An accomplished pianist, vocal coach and conductor, she has worked for several companies and festivals including English National Opera, Opera de Lyon, Opera Ballet Vlaanderen and the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence.
Genevieve was a guest Chorus Master at Opera de Lyon ('War Requiem', 2017) and with the BBC Singers ('Prisoner of the State', 2020) and has taken rehearsals for the Philharmonia Chorus and London Oriana Choir. At the Royal Opera she has assisted Chorus Director William Spaulding on over 60 titles, working with conductors including Sir Antonio Pappano, Sir Mark Elder, Semyon Bychkov, Hartmut Haenchen, Bertrand de Billy, Suanna Mälkki, Mark Wigglesworth, Renato Balsadonna, Edward Gardner and Ivor Bolton. She has been Chorus Master for 'Le nozze di Figaro', 'Il barbiere di Siviglia' and 'Don Giovanni', and in 2023 she led the chorus in the preparation and performance of Saariaho's 'Innocence'.
This year Genevieve performs on a new disc of Hensel Lieder for First Hand Records and conducts Apollo Voices in choral works by Barbara Harbach for MSR Classics.
