George Hernandez,
voice and piano teacher, bass opera singer, choral composer and arranger, conductor, piano accompanist and founder and music director of the renowned Philippine Saringhimig Singers.

*George Hernandez has worked as accompanist and vocal coach at the San Francisco Convervatory of Music and San Francisco State University in the past.

George is a published choral composer and arranger with Pavane Publishing, a division of Hal Leonard Publishing Co. One of his most popular folk song arrangements is “Rosas Pandan”. It has been sung by countless choirs around the world.

He continues to arrange Philippine folk songs as well as Philippine popular songs to share the Philippine cultural arts with the world community.
George is also a voice and piano teacher.

Many of his students have won awards and competitions in opera, Broadway, and pop categories locally as well as nationally. His
students have performed professionally with companies like the San Francisco Opera, San Francisco Symphony, New York City Opera, San Francisco Lyric Opera, West Bay Opera, Bear Valley Music Festival Opera, Broadway by the Bay, The Mountain Play, touring production of “Rent”, “Miss Saigon”, and “Les Miserables”.

As a bass singer, George has sung with the San Francisco Opera as a chorus member since 1990. He has sung operatic roles with Townsend Opera Player, West Bay Opera,
Bear Valley Music Festival, San Francisco Lyric Opera, and Donald Pippin’s Pocket Opera.

He has sung as bass soloist with several symphony orchestras in the San
Francisco Bay Area. One of his memorable performances was with the Redwood Symphony Orchestra’s performance of Mahler’s “Eighth Symphony” singing the bass solo and Pater Profundis in 1999.

George received his Bachelor of Music degree in Piano, Composition, and Choral Conducting from the University of the Philippines.

He also holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

He moved to San Francisco to continue his studies in
choral conducting with Byron McGilvray,

organ with Alexander Post
Voice with Dewey Camp and Kathrine Harvey at San Francisco State University and San Francisco Conservatory of Music
where received another music degree in Voice Performance and accompaniment under Hermann Leroux and Donald Stenberg.

He won First place in the Abramowitsch Lieder Competition in 1989.

As an OPERATIC BASSO, he has sung with San Francisco Opera as a chorus member since 1990. He also has sung operatic roles with Townsend Opera Player, West Bay Opera, Bear Valley Music Festival, San Francisco Lyric Opera, and Donald Pippin’s Pocket Opera inthe following operas: Mozart’s “Die Zauberflote”, “La Finta Simplice“, and “Le Nozze di Figaro“, Verdi’s “Rigoletto”, Il Trovatore and “La Traviata“, Menotti’s “Amahl and the Night Visitors“, Offenbach’s “Bridges of Sighs“, Bizet’s Carmen, Puccini’s “Madame Butterfly” and “Gianni Schichi” to name a few.

He has sung as bass soloist for several symphony orchestras in the bay area. One of his memorable performances was with the Redwood Symphony Orchestra’s performance of Mahler’s Eighth Symphony singing the Bass solo and Pater Profundis in April 1999.

He currently teaches voice and piano in his music studio. Several of his students have won awards and competitions in opera, broadway, and popular categories locally as well as nationally. His students have performed professionally with companies like the San Francisco Opera, New York City Opera, Bear Valley Opera, San Francisco Lyric Opera, West Bay Opera, Broadway By The Bay, The Mountain Play, touring broadway companies of “Rent“, “Miss Saigon“, and “Les Miserables.

George Hernandez founded Philippine Saringhimig Singers in 1974 during his studies at the University of the Philippines College of
Music. As the director and conductor of the Philippine Saringhimig Singers, George has received recognition and awards from
distinguished international choral competitions and festivals.

He has also received THE STATE RECOGNITION AND AWARD
twice from the State of California for his excellence in music awarded by Senator Torlakson in 2005 and by Senator Milton Marks in 1994.

He also received THE 2003 PAMANA ART LEGACY AWARD
for his contribution in music in the cultural arts from the Filipino
American Arts Exposition in San Francisco,
California.
