Gerald Lim is a founding member and ensemble manager of Red Dot Baroque (RDB), who is currently in residence at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (YST). Besides actively performing with RDB, he can be found collaborating with major music groups such as the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, re:Sound Collective, and the Orchestral Institute at YST. Most recently, he has worked with prominent figures such as Chloe Chua and Twoset Violin.
Gerald's expertise as an early keyboardist enables him to deliver stylistic Baroque keyboard accompaniments from original figured bass parts, rather than relying on editorial realisations. As an accompanist, Gerald has played for many successful candidates for Music Conservatory/School auditions and ABRSM examinations, as well as choir camps organised by the Ministry of Education. As a repetiteur, Gerald has worked with The Opera People in operatic productions such as Handel's Alcina and Purcell's Dido and Aeneas.
As an educator, Gerald coaches students at YSTCM and has taught O-Level Higher Music at both Methodist Girls' School and Nan Chiau High School, where at the latter, his students achieved an impressive 100% distinction rate. He also provides private lessons at his studio, catering to a diverse range of students from young learners to mature enthusiasts as young as 70.
Gerald earned a Master’s with Distinction from the Royal Academy of Music and a First Class Honours degree from the University of Birmingham, where he graduated top of his class. He received the Early Music Prizes and various academic awards at both institutions.
In addition to modern piano, Gerald plays a 1749 Goujon harpsichord copy by Andrew Garlick and an original 1868 London Erard fortepiano.
