Hamish graduated with Distinction from the Royal College of Music in July 2016, where he studied an MPerf in Piano Accompaniment with Simon Lepper and Roger Vignoles. He previously read music at the University of Manchester, studying piano with Andrew Wilde, gaining a MusB(Hons) with First Class Honours in July 2014. He has also gained DipABRSM and LRSM diplomas, both with distinction, in 2010 and 2012 respectively.
Hamish is a very experienced accompanist, and won all the RCM vocal accompaniment first prizes during his postgraduate studies. He has performed in many venues including Wigmore Hall, the Royal Over-Seas League, the V&A Museum, the Royal Festival Hall, the Carole Nash Recital Room and the Wyvern Theatre, and events including the Leeds Lieder Festival and Oxford Lieder Festival. He participated in the Aldeburgh Festival as a Britten-Pears Young Artist, performing in masterclasses by the acclaimed German baritone Thomas Quasthoff.
Hamish has taken part in masterclasses given by pianists such as Anna Markland, Ronan O’Hora, Philip Fowke, Peter Lawson, Michael Dussek and Graham Johnson, and played in masterclasses by singers such as Deborah York, Edith Wiens, Roderick Williams, Simon Keenlyside, Elly Ameling and Sir Thomas Allen.
Also a frequent orchestral pianist, Hamish has performed piano, celesta and harpsichord under conductors including Jac van Steen, John Wilson, Vladimir Jurowski, Brett Dean, Martin André and Michael Seal.
Hamish is also a jazz pianist, with experience ranging from small group settings to Big Band projects, including the Manchester University Big Band for two years, and RCM Big Band directed by lead trumpeter Mike Lovatt.
