Joana David was born in Porto and graduated from the Superior School of Music in Porto with distinctions in chamber music and piano. Her teachers were Jaime Mota and Luís Filipe Sá.
She participated in masterclasses with Helena Sá e Costa, Luiz de Moura e Castro, Jaime Mota, Jorge Fernando Azevedo, Havard Grimse, Julius Drake, Anne le Bozec, Ilma Rata, Christine Whittlesey e Jan Philip Schulze. She won the Eng. Antonio de Almeida award for best student in 2002/03 and the Rotary Portuguese Award for the best accompanist in 2009.
Joana is specialized in accompaniment and has performed much of the major repertoire in many venues in Portugal. She often collaborates with Porto Symphony Orchestra, Gulbenkian Orchestra and The S.Carlos theatre Sinfónica (opera house).
Often invited to accompany several masterclasses and competitions in her country.

Joana had singing lessons and vocal technique for 5 years.
In 2007 she finished with distiction her postgraduate study at the Royal Academy of Music where her professors were Michael Dussek and Colin Stone.
At the Academy she was awarded the Alan Murray and Alice Payne Scholarships, and the Scott Huxley prize (best accompanist). After London she moved to Lisbon and was offered a job as a repetiteur in the Lisbon opera House.
Joana recorded her first CD in 2010, the complete songs by João Arroyo (first recording) with the soprano Marina Pacheco.
In the summer of 2010 she attended the Centre de Perfeccionement Plácido Domingo in Valencia.
In 2014 Joana got her Ph. D in Music by the Instituto Politécnico do Porto.
She worked for 11 years as an accompanist of the Porto Superior School of Music and currently is a repetiteur at the S. Carlos theatre (Lisbon opera house) and accompanist at the Lisbon Superior School of Music.
