I began teaching my self the piano at age 12, inspired by my father's playing. Eventually I took lessons and attended college as a piano performance major, performing both classical and jazz. As a senior in college, I was awarded the Herb Deibler Award in piano and performed an hour long recital including works by Mozart, Copland, Chopin, and Brahms. After graduating from college, I attended Carnegie Mellon University where I studied composition and received a Master of Music degree. While at Carnegie Mellon, I wrote music for piano, string quartet, orchestra, and chamber ensemble. My master's thesis, a work for orchestra, was performed by the Carnegie Mellon University Orchestra and was awarded first prize at a concert of orchestral works by undergraduate seniors and second year Master's students. Upon graduation from Carnegie Mellon in 1997, I worked as a pianist in Pittsburgh, PA. My work included accompanying voice lessons, teaching music theater at a private school, teaching music theory as part of Carnegie Mellon's pre-college program, and even a performance at Heinz Hall for a competition sponsored by Marvin Hamlisch and the Pittsburgh Pops. Although I took a hiatus from music, working for the last three years as an attorney in Pennsylvania, I've decided to return to the more fulfilling world of music.
