Learned to play organ and piano in private lessons while grade school while also being a member of Harrison Elementary Choir & Band. In middle school she joined the McHenry County Youth Orchestra as a 2nd oboe and eventually won 1st chair position continuing to play throughout high school. The summer prior to college she was awarded a scholarship to attend Western Illinois University's summer music camp. She then was accepted to Northern Illinois University as a "music major" studying oboe (Judy Lewis) and piano (William Koehler) privately along with playing oboe in the NIU Wind Ensemble and substituting when needed in the NIU Symphony on English horn. Karlene did this while taking music classes, such as theory and aural skills, business classes, and working part-time. She eventually turned this into a Bachelor of General Studies "Contract Major" in Arts Administration from the College of Visual & Performing Arts graduating from NIU in 1995.
In 1995 she moved to Los Angeles to work for three years. She returned to Chicago for further work and educational experience. In 2002 she received her MA in Arts, Entertainment & Media Management with a "major" in Performing Arts Management while working full-time. Today she continues to combine career interests in business and the arts. She is an administrative manager for Olesuk Financial Services in McHenry, Illinois. She also is a piano accompanist for the "Praise Band" at the Contemporary Mass for St. Marks Lutheran Church and plays oboe for the orchestra of Saint Patrick Catholic Church, both located in Saint Charles, Illinois.
