Glasgow born pianist Kate ( Kathleen) McPhail is a graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (BMus) and the Royal Irish Academy of Music ( MMus and Recital Artist Diploma). Moreover, while a student at the RIAM, Kate was the recipient of the colleges first Erasmus Scholarship which enabled her to enter the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris for the second year of her Masters.
Following the completion of her studies in Paris, Kate returned to Ireland where she worked as an pianist, examiner, teacher and workshop leader for a further four years. As a soloist Kate has performed in venues such as as the National Concert Hall, Dublin, the National Gallery, Dublin and St. Marys Cathedral, Glasgow as part of the The West End Festival.
More recently, Kate returned home to Glasgow to work with Scotlands Big Noise orchestral programme, based on the famous El Sistema programme from Venezuela. Fortunately, the post allows her to indulge in her love of travel! Recent adventures to Sistema and Sistema inspired programmes around the world include : Orchids Baltimore, Kidznotes North Carolina and to the Montalban Nucleo in Caracas, Venezuela - the subject of the recent BBC 1 documentary The Big Trip. Kate is also currently preparing travel to Ramallah, Palestine to deliver a series of workshops and concerts at the Al Kamnadjati music project with Irish violinist Jonathan McBride.
As an experienced accompanist for both singers and instrumentalists, Kate is available for: coaching, auditions and audition preparation, choir accompaniment, dance classes, concerts and grade exams.
Kate is an accomplished singer and flautist with particular interest in jazz and traditional genres. She is also currently pursing the development of her own material which she will debut very soon!
