A graduate of New England Conservatory (MMus) and University of Oregon (BMus), I am both an active concert soloist and chamber musician. I have performed and lectured in all regions of the United States and much of the world; I frequently present recitals, lectures, and master classes at universities, and I recently appeared at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, University of North Florida, University of New Mexico, Cal State Northridge, and Brigham Young University. Additionally, I have been a guest soloist in several music festivals including the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States (SEAMUS), the Oregon Festival of American Music, the Norfolk New Music Festival, and Ives and His World.
Although I accompany all instrument types and voice in all styles of music, I particularly specialize in modern music. I have premiered over 100 new works for piano, and worked with important composers such as Frederic Rzewski, Christian Wolff, and Louis Andriessen. The 2010 Rozsa Visiting Artist at the University of Tulsa, I was the winner of the 2005 John Cage Award and the 2006 Steinway Society competition and in 2005 gave the both the Boston premier of Charles Ives's Emerson Concerto and the world premier of Matthew McConnell's Concerto for Toy Piano. In addition to recordings on the Bridge, Zerx, and SEAMUS labels, I am the solo pianist in the Callithumpian Consort's album of John Luther Adams's For Lou Harrison on New World Records, and my recording of Leo Ornstein's complete works for cello and piano will be released shortly after the new year on my new independent label, Thinking OutLOUD Records.
