Additional Info:
Originally a native of New Jersey, currently Kenneth Faulkner-Alexander has residences both in Piscataway, N.J. & midtown Manhattan where he's a much sought-after Musical Director / Pianist & Vocal Coach / Arranger. To date, he's musically directed over 80 shows ranging from Broadway, Radio City Music Hall, & Off-Broadway, to various regional theaters & summer stock productions. Some of his theatrical highlights include; "NELLIE" / Lambs Theatre, "SLAY IT WITH MUSIC" / Actors Outlet, "THE FANTASTICKS" / touring company & "CANDIDE" / Dallas Lyric Opera. All time favorites are his award winning regional production of "NINE" for which he received an AVY Award as "BEST MUSICAL DIRECTOR" during which critics dubbed him "The Young Marvel of Musical Theatre" ~ a title that has followed him since! His other favorite happened to be a complete life altering experience for him, when he was given the opportunity to both Compose, Arrange & Musical Direct the stage version of Arthur Miller's "PLAYING FOR TIME". This play, written about the experiences of Fania Fenelon & the all-women orchestra at the Auschwitz Concentration Camp, gave him the honor & privilege to work with Holocaust Survivors as well as sitting as a Scholar for a National Symposium on the Holocaust during the conclusion of the show's run.
Kenneth's other career highlights include his cabaret act; Et.Al. ~ The Vocal Group, in which he was not only the Musical Director / Arranger, but a Performer as well. Their sold-out runs include; The Cherry Lane Theatre / Don't Tell Mama's / the grand re-opening of the famous NYC Nightclub ~ The Legendary El Morocco Club & the NYC telecast of the Oscars at Studio 54. KFA's solo NYC engagements include stints at; Tavern On The Green / The Algonquin & The St. Regis, as well as various Dallas engagements at such places as; The Hideaway Club / The Fraternity & Catch A Rising Star.
Kenneth has had advanced training in Alexander Technique & is a strong advocate of its purpose & benefits, incorporating the technique into all of his teachings. He's taught Musical Theater & Auditioning Skills at Queen's College / NY, (w/ Charlie Repole) Columbia College / SC, Montclair University / NJ, & Syracuse University / NY. His own education includes his undergraduate degree work as a Piano Performance Major at Southern Methodist University & Richland College, (both in Dallas, Texas) as well as Manhattan School of Music, N.Y. He was very fortunate to have been accepted at such a young age as the pupil of the Distinguished SMU Professor & Pianist - Alfred Mouledous. His legendary mentor was not only pianist for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, but also a pupil of the famous pianist Walter Geiseking - another legendary pianist who was a student of none other than the Great Master Composer / Pianist & Fore-Fathers of Impressionistic Music - Claude Debussy. From the tutelage of Mr. Mouledous' Studio, KFA was also given the privilege & honor to be a pupil or the gifted Texan - Dr. Jerry Wallace, a much sought after Pianist & College Professor of Piano & Music Theory. It was finally under the guise of Dr. Wallace where KFA's past training in various pianistic techniques was polished & honed, giving him his very distinct sound - an extremely unique & recognizable tone that sets him apart from so many other pianists due to it's brilliance, fire & speed - yet still totally capable of maintaining a beautifully sensitive sound shape, well rounded harmonics & a perfectly balanced tone as his hands grace the keys.
Some of KFA's other teachers include; Constance Keene / Sondra Tammam / Lillian Livingston & Sr. Mary Maher. Also while doing undergrad work at Southern Methodist University, Kenneth had the distinct privilege & very great honor of being both the accompanist to, as well as a student of the World Renowned Choral Conductor / Director & Choral Composer - the late Dr. Lloyd Pfautsch. Kenneth remains to this day the one (and possibly only) undergraduate student to ever have been the piano accompanist for Dr. Pfautsch's legendary Mustang Chorale for the entire time he spent at SMU.
Several years ago, Kenneth was in a very severe & life-altering automobile accident where he was a passenger in a car that was struck by a drunk driver. Sadly, he was forced to take a six-year absence & hiatus from any kind of musical endeavors, due to the severe rehabilitation process he had to endure... part of which included 18 surgeries & many, many years of physical therapy. Although now Legally Blind, due to this tragic event, KFA made a quite historic come-back a few years ago with a series of concert events entitled: "CHRISTMAS WITH K.F.A." This holiday concert series was then recorded & released on compact disc with it 's proceeds going to various Pediatric HIV/AIDS Foundations.
Presently today, besides various free lance music gigs, he owns & operates "The KFA MUSIC STUDIO" in South Plainfield, NJ, where he teaches advanced classical piano studies as well as vocal coaching in both the Musical Theatre & Classical venues. He specializes in working with high school junior & seniors who are preparing for their college auditions. Kenneth has had over 17 years of complete 100 % success in getting every single student he has ever worked with accepted into their 1st choice of schools! Currently he has students attending almost every major Music Conservatory & Collegiate Program for Musical Theater & Music (Piano & Voice) throughout the United States, as well as many students who are now appearing on various stages from Broadway to the Met, and all over America & abroad. Kenneth can be reached at his Music Studio by calling: (908) 755-6666
Besides KFA's Musical Directing for theater, his own performance career, his teaching & his music studio, Kenneth is also an established Church Musician as well. In the 1990's, he was Director of Music & Liturgy for two of central Jerseys larger Catholic parishes; Sacred Heart R.C. Church in South Plainfield, N.J. & Saint Mary R.C. Church in South Amboy, N.J. Since 1999, KFA's latest church gig requires him to deal with one of the longest commutes / travel time of any job he's ever had, but as he'll tell you himself, it is totally & completely worth it, being that this parish is one of the most thriving, deeply spiritual & energetic communities he has ever had the pleasure of being involved with! The church is Saint Thomas the Apostle R.C. Church in Charleston, South Carolina, and it is here that Kenneth is once again the Director of Music & Liturgy.
