Additional Info:
Lin Lao is a seasoned pianist and dedicated piano teacher who also specializes in the fortepiano and harpsichord. Originally from China, she is now based in the greater Sacramento area in California where she is on staff as a pianist for the Clarksburg Community Church and is on the piano faculty at the Pacific Institute of Music in Folsom. She holds a Doctoral of Musical Arts in Piano Performance at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where her dissertation focused on musical borrowing and quotations in works composed by John Corigliano.
As a scholar, she enjoys researching and rediscovering forgotten compositions, and performing them on the period instruments in which they were composed. Her current research includes early keyboard music in Spain in the early 1700s and in America in the early 1800s. She has performed and presented her research at concerts and conferences for the Westfield Center of Historical Keyboard Studies, the Historical Keyboard Society of North America where she chairs the nominating committee, Early Music America where she is also on the Emerging Professional Leadership Council, and the Sacramento Music at Noon concert series.
She played for symphony orchestras for the Boston Conservatory and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Her repertoire spans a wide range of works, including iconic compositions such as Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker," George Walker's "Sinfonia," and the east coast premiere of Tom Cipullo's American contemporary opera, "Glory Denied."
