A good accompanist has somewhat of a sixth sense for knowing what to play next, when to offer pitches without being asked, play entrances or parts along with the accompaniment where needed, follow the direction of the conductor, and have the flexibility to fake it by following a soloist in the event he misses an entrance.
I have a Master of Arts in Piano Performance from the University of California, Santa Barbara. I pride myself on being an expressive, experienced, and seasoned player. It is a common occurrence that other respected musicians will comment on my sense of time. I have had the good fortune to perform with exceptional artists, in classical, jazz, and popular styles. I wrote an instructional piano book for Hall Leonard Publications called, Play the Blues.
