Lyudmila Lakisova, concert pianist and accompanist
Lyudmila Lakisova, a Steinway performing artist, immigrated to the United States in November 1995, and chose Chicago as her new home.
While in Belarus, Lyudmila graduated from the special School of Music for Gifted Children, affiliated with the Belorussian State Conservatory of Music, receiving her Bachelor's degree in 1988. She earned her Master's Degree in Piano Performance, Pedagogy, and Chamber Music in 1993 with a Ph.D in Piano Accompaniment in 1995, both from the Belorussian State Conservatory of Music in Minsk. While there, she placed highly in two state piano competitions. Later, she taught and worked as an accompanist at the Special School of Music for Gifted Children and the State Conservatory of Minsk.
In 1989, she became at the Belorussian State Philharmonic, a recital pianist and accompanist for a chamber choir of Belarus. Lyudmila also performed Shostakovich Concerto No. 2 and Prokofiev Concerto No. 1 for piano with the Belorussian State Symphony, Her repertoire is extensive and includes: "Pictures at an Exhibition" by Mussorgsky, "Carnival" by Schumann, sonatas by Mozart, Beethoven, Liszt, Prokofiev, and Barber, as well as concertos by Shostakovich, Prokofiev, Rachmaninoff, Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, and Gershwin.
Lyudmila has become well known in Chicago music circles as a pianist and accompanist. In addition to playing recitals and concerts throughout the Chicagoland area, Ms. Lakisova was a member of the Landolfi Piano Trio with Drostan Hall, violinist, and David Cunliffe, cellist. She has given several performances in the Steinway Society Concert series as a soloist and with the Landolfi Trio. In 2003, Lyudmila and Drostan Hall toured in England with chamber concerts. WFMT Radio featured Lyudmila with Drostan Hall in "Live with WFMT" with Kerry Frumkin.
She has performed many times in violin recitals with Marlou Johnston, Concertmaster of the Kankakee Valley Symphony. She has become a featured soloist and ensemble performer with many orchestras in the Chicago area, including the North Shore Chamber Orchestra, Wheaton Symphony, West Suburban Symphony, under the direction of Peter Lipari, and Camerata Chicago, with Drostan Hall as the conductor. In addition, Lyudmila played with Camerata Chicago in a concert series throughout the Chicago-land area, including Harris Theater in downtown Chicago.
Lyudmila also took part in the Myra Hess WFMT Concert Series at the Cultural Center Downtown Chicago, in 2008 in a chamber concert, and in March of 2009 with Camerata Chicago and Alexander Platt as a conductor. In July 2008 and 2010, Lyudmila performed as a guest pianist at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York with Irina Lupynis in a piano duet.
In previous years, she toured extensively with Trio Chicago & Friends, with Eliot Golub as the leader, on the continents of Africa and Asia in the countries of Mali, Ethiopia, Zambia, Uganda, and Vietnam. Lyudmila also provides her accompanying and coaching skills to the students of Chicago's well-known violin teachers, such as: Drostan Hall (Hall School of Music), Drew Lecher (private studio), Desiree Ruhstrat (Music Institute of Chicago) and Ronald and Almita Vamos (Northwestern University).
Lyudmila graduated from Charis Bible College in Elmhurst, IL in 2005 and is the Director of Worship and the Arts at Long Grove Community Church, Illinois.
