Singaporean pianist Matthew is described by the Straits Times as one who “played with feeling” and by Der Westen Dusseldorf as “a pianist who keeps the suspense with brilliant playing.” As a collaborative pianist, Matthew has won the Outstanding Pianist at the Orientale Concentus Choral Festival consecutively in 2017 and 2016.
Matthew is a Yong Siew Toh Scholar who has completed his Bachelor and Masters at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore. At the conservatory, Matthew was under the tutelage of Professor Dr Thomas Hecht, Steinway Artist and Head of Keyboard Studies at the conservatory. Matthew principal teachers include Dr Thomas Hecht, Melvyn Tan, Benjamin Loh and Lori Kaufman.
Matthew has also received full scholarships to attend festivals around the world such as the Holland Music Sessions, Kirishima Music Festival and the Adam Gyorgy Castle Academy in Hungary.
Matthew is currently on the piano accompaniment faculty at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, NUS and the piano instructor for Ngee Ann Polytechnic Piano Club.
