A recipient of the RCM Study Award and the MOE Teaching Scholarship (Overseas), Muqiao went on to study piano with Andrew Ball and piano accompaniment with Elizabeth Burley at the Royal College of Music (London), where she graduated with First Class Honours. As a pianist, her experiences include performances for international audiences on live broadcast, and masterclasses with musicians including Michel Beroff, Victor Rosenbaum, Alexander Kobrin, and Roy Howat. Keenly interested in the chamber and orchestral repertoires, she has performed under the baton of conductors such as Stephen Bell and Nicholas Collon.
Being a music educator, Muqiao has worked extensively with both children and young adults. She frequently works with school choirs, such as aiding the Raffles Girls School (Secondary) Choir and CHIJ Toa Payoh Primary School Choir to achieve Distinction at the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation. She has also taught the Music Elective Programme at Methodist Girls' School, and pioneered the General Music Programme at Peicai Secondary School.
As an experienced accompanist, Muqiao believes in effective collaboration and respects each musician's individual voice, and encourages all members of the ensemble to have a stake in shaping the musical ideas of a piece. She collaborates regularly in public performances with both enthusiastic amateurs and professional musicians. Locally, she is frequently engaged for school and ABRSM exams, competitions (e.g. Symphony 92.4 Young Talent Project, Singapore Raffles International Music Festival etc.), and college auditions (e.g. Yong Siew Toh Conservatory, Royal College of Music, Royal Conservatory of Scotland, etc.)
