Sought after as vocal coach, Art Song accompanist and chamber musician, Pedro Costa is a Portuguese solo and collaborative pianist based in Vienna. He currently holds a position as Senior Lecturer für Korrepetition at the Graz University of Music and Performing Arts.
He has won the First Prize at several competitions such as the Estoril Interpretation Competition, the Helena Sá e Costa Prize, the Portuguese Prize for Young Musicians (Prémio Jovens Músicos), the Louis Spohr Competition for Song Accompaniment in Kassel and the New Tenuto Competition in Brussels, and performed as a soloist with the Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa, Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras, Orquestra de Câmara de Cascais e Oeiras, Orkest der Lage Landen and the Koninklijke Muziekkapel van Gidsen.
He has played in many European concert halls, including at the Wigmore Hall in London, Große Saal Mozarteum in Salzburg, Flagey in Brussels, Casa da Música in Porto, CCB, Teatro S. Carlos and Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian in Lisbon.
Together with oboist Guilherme Sousa and bassoonist Paulo Ferreira he is a founding member of the Perspective Trio, with whom he won the Chamber Music Competition of the Portuguese Radio in 2015. They are currently preparing a CD recording with new Portuguese works for this formation.
His special interest for Art Song led him to attend for four years the International Lied Masterclasses in Brussels, where he had the opportunity to work with renowned singers and pianists like Udo Reinemann, Christianne Stotijn, Anne Sophie von Otter, Peter Schreier, Ann Murray, Brigitte Fassbaender, Christoph Prégardien, Sir Thomas Allen, among others. Pedro Costa accompanies regularly singers such as Peter Kellner, Coline Dutilleul, Marina Pacheco, Tiago Matos, André Baleiro and João Terleira. Recently he was awarded with the Accompanist Prize at the Rotary Club Singing Competition.
Born in 1989 in Macao, Pedro Costa obtained his Bachelor Degree from the Escola Superior de Música of Porto (Portugal) in the class of Luís Filipe Sá. In 2015, he finished with distinction his Master Studies with Piet Kuijken at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel (Belgium). Pedro is currently studying vocal accompaniment with Joseph Breinl and Julius Drake at the Kunstuniversität Graz (Austria).
