Hello! My name is Rachel Korvemaker, and I guess you might say I've been accompanying almost as long as I've been playing piano. I began playing at 8 years old, and by my last couple years of elementary school I was accompanying the school choir for a few songs, and in Grade 8 I accompanied a friend for her voice festival piece. For the latter half of high school, I was the accompanist for both school choirs, and throughout university my music professors have hired me on several times to accompany choir, vocalists and instrumentalists. There's hardly anything I would rather do than accompany people who really care about making quality music!
My first year of university was at UWO (Western) in the B.Mus. program, after which I transferred to Redeemer for a general B.A with concurrent B.Ed., and I currently have one year left in the program. Music is an extremely important part of my life, and I love playing the supporting role of an accompanist for a number of reasons. 1) The spotlight is not on me, but I can still feel that I did an amazing job! 2) I can sight read just about anything and making sure that you have the best support possible is ample motivation for me to practice! 3) Team work just makes music-making that much more fun!
