I am 57 years old and have played the piano since I was 7 - wow that's 50 years stroking the ivories! I studied classical piano for ten years during which I began to compose my own music as well as joining rock bands in my teen years. At university I studied some jazz and continued my pop, rock and fusion interests. I then traveled widely and encountered Gamelan music from Indonesia and later Indian music. I then added analog synthesizers to my skill set while continuing to compose. Later on I began recording my original music which has continued to this day with a number of recordings under my belt. I have also performed extensively as a soloist and in ensembles, accompanying choirs and a lot of vocalists in duet settings. Even though I read, my greatest skill is interpretation and specifically improvisation, so often I will read what I need to make the piece work if is not necessary to be played exactly as written, and then add my own sensitivity and understanding to generate a piece that works for the vocalist or instrumentalist and that will delight an audience! I have received many compliments over the years for my accompanying skills. It is an art that many do not understand fully - which is to say that it's not just about playing the notes.
