In 2010, Thomas graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD), having studied composition with Dr Robert Spearing, winning the Barry Choral Society Composition Prize (2008, 2010), and the Elgar Society Prize (2007). In his final year, Fractured light for solo piano was premiered in London. He also received a commission from the RWCMD new music ensemble, with the resulting Inventing Flight premiering in 2010. He then continued his studies on the prestigious MA in Choral Conducting course, studying with Adrian Partington and Simon Halsey.
Prior to this, Thomas studied music at the University of Salford with Professor David King (conducting), and Professor Peter Graham (composing), where he played percussion for a number of leading brass bands. During this time, he was also organ scholar at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, the largest cathedral in the UK.
Recent highlights include playing the organs of Gloucester Cathedral and Westminster Abbey, and conducting his oratorio, The Passion of Christ, and Benjamin Brittens A Ceremony of Carols.
Thomas currently works in a freelance capacity as a composer, conductor, and organist.
