ABRSM diploma-holding pianist with much experience accompanying soloists and choirs.
I've accompanied singers and instrumentalists on many occasions at competitions, concerts, and exams (I live close to the ABRSM exam centre at Armitage Bridge). I'm always happy to take on this kind of work with any style of music from show songs to Lieder, early music, modern classical, etc etc. At rehearsals beforehand, I try to get a good understanding of how the performer tackles the piece, (and if necessary help sort out any problems as I have a good "ear") so that we can achieve a united performance.
I also work with choirs and am regular accompanist for Almondbury Ladies' choir and deputy accompanist for Skelmanthorpe male voice choir. As I'm a choir singer myself (25 years with Huddersfield choral society) and choir director at my local church, I think this helps me to accompany more sensitively, understanding how the singing feels to the singers and what the MD is trying to achieve. Also I can do a bit of conducting and take rehearsals if necessary to give the MD a break, though I am not seeking to be an MD.
I'm DBS-certified, available for work in the Huddersfield area or round about, and as I'm retired from my full-time job I'm often available during the day.
