Vasilis Socratous is a solo and collaborative pianist, born on 1994 in Larnaca. He is one of the most active musicians of his generation in Cyprus.
He has performed numerous recitals, concerts and chamber music concerts in Austria, the United Kindom, France, Serbia, Istanbul, Greece and Cyprus appearing in theaters and taking part in festivals such as "Joy of Europe" (representation of Cyprus in Belgrade, 2007), Council d 'Europe (Strasbourg, 2016 ), Athenaeum International Cultural Centre (Athens, 2016), Leo Kultursaal (Internationale Musiktage Bad Leonfelden - Upper Austria, 2014-2016), Larnaca Classical Music Festival (2013, 2017), Embassy of Cyprus in Athens (2014, 2016), Alexandroupolis Music Association (Association of Music Educators of East Macedonia and Trace, 2016, 2017), Greek Society for Music Education (2016), Lycée Léonin Athènes (Athens, 2016), Pancyprian Unesco Conference (Larnaca 2003), Pancyprian Performances for the accession of Cyprus in the European Union (Nicosia, 2004) etc. In addition, he has appeared on the National Television Broadcasting of Cyprus (2003) and the radio (www.toradiofono.gr, 2014). Furthermore, his unique engagement with contemporary music has led him to perform compositions for 1st performances, which some of them have been dedicated specially to him.
Socratous received his piano diploma from the New Conservatoire of Thessaloniki in the class of Nikolaos Zafranas with Distinction and his Bachelor s degree from the University of Macedonia with major in chamber music. He holds the Licentiate and Associate diploma in piano performance of Trinity College of London with distinction.
At the moment, he is a graduate student at Birmingham Conservatoire studying piano accompaniment in the class of David Quigley.
Socratous has studied under the supervision and mentorship of Nikolaos Zafranas in Thessaloniki for 4 years and with Christiana Antoniou - Matsis in Nicosia for 3 years.
He has attended actively piano and chamber music courses and seminars by many renowned artists such as: Katherina Polyzoides - Sourvalis (Graz), Janna Polyzoides (Vienna), Christos Noulis (Thessaloniki), Filippo Gamba (Basel), Agathe Leimoni (Athens) and Valeria Charitidou (Thessaloniki).
He has received various scholarships and awards throughout his musical path and would like to thank the private and public trustees Austrian Greek society of Graz, the Cyprus Music Workshop of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra and the Holy Orthodox Metropolis of Larnaca.
He realized that he always enjoyed composing since it was a great way to express ones feelings. Therefore, composing the music on the poetry collection of Dr. Andreas Georgallides The piano abated has been of great importance for his course of life so far. The CD is held in various significant University Departments for Greek Language globally. His works have been presented in Cyprus, Greece, Austria, the United Kingdom and France.
He was the principal bass trombone of the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra, trombone quartet of the CYSO, Cyprus Youth Symphonic Band and Youth Symphony Orchestra of Megaron (MOYSA) in Thessaloniki. He studied bass trombone with Catherine Heaver (Cyprus Symphony Orchestra), Kalevro Kulmala (Sibelius Academy Finland) and Otmar Strobel (Principal Trombone of the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig)
