Singaporean Pianist Wang Congyu was born in year 1992. He started learning the piano at the age of three. He was accepted with a scholarship to study at the prestigious Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris Alfred Cortot, where he studied with prominent pianists Jean-Marc Luisada and Odile Catelin-Delangle. He later enrolled in the Schola Cantorum to further his studies with Gabriel Tacchino, the only student of Francis Poulenc. Throughout his education in two of the most prestigious schools in France, he consulted pianists such as Igor Lazko, Sergio Perticaroli, Aquilles Delle-Vigne, Francois Weigel and Olivier Cazal.
At a young age of 18, Congyu has already received top prizes in numerous piano competitions, which opened many doors to piano concerts and festivals. His prizes at international competitions such as the Vulaines Sur Seine, Lagny Sur Marne, Merignac Concours de Piano, Bordeaux European Piano Competition for young pianists and particularly the Grand Prix at the Berlin International Piano Competition Sforzando Prize has given him many opportunities to perform in Europe. At the Chopin International Piano Competition for young pianists in Slovenia, Congyu was awarded 6th Prize. This led to Francois Weigel; a member of the jury who believed he should have won, resigning from the jury in protest. The award-winning pianist has since performed in France, England, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Sweden, Portugal, Romania, Reunion Island, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. He has played at least 500 solo piano recitals, 20 Premieres of composers such as Carayol, Doue, bosch etc.
His vast repertoire includes 30 Piano Concertos and complete works of Chopin and Poulenc.
Congyu has played with conductors such as Boguslaw Dawidow, Gianandrea Noseda, Benjamin Zander, Jean-Jacques Werner etc. As an active Chamber musician, he performs with violinist Benjamin Brandeleer-Ligier with whom he founded the Francis Poulenc Duo. Congyu is also quite a remarkable teacher; ignoring his age he already has students who scored full marks at the ABRSM examinations, many of his students have been achieving high scores; some passed their entrance examinations to music conservatories. He was featured on the German National TV for the Geza Anda Foundation, French and Swiss national radios.
Congyu was invited to give performances in festivals such as Chateau de la Verrerie (France), Ernen Music Festival (Switzerland) offered by the Lyra Foundation, Geza Anda Piano Festival Masterclasses (Berlin), International Isang Yun Academy (Paris) and the International Sommerakademie Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg (Salzburg), Aurora Chamber Festival (Sweden). Congyu has participated in master classes with pianist such as Dr. Nicholas Ong, France Clidat, Adam Gyogy, Karaya Han, Françoise Thinat, Maria de Pietro etc. Pianists such as Stephane Blet, Byron Janis and Maria Joao Pires have invited him.
