Wayne Teo graduated from the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris in France, where he studied solo piano with Erik Berchot and chamber music with the late Devy Erlih. He was awarded “Premier Prix- à l’unanimité et avec les félicitations du Jury”- First prize unanimously with commendations, coming out top of his cohort.
A year later, he won 2nd prize at the International Nikolai Rubinstein competition in Paris. Wayne went on to study with the president of jury Igor Lazko, at La Schola Cantorum in Paris. Since then he has been performing regularly, in both solo and chamber concerts with his friends around the city.
In 2010, Wayne joined the Tongyeong International Music Festival to take part in the Isang Yun Music Academy, during which he worked with South Korean pianist Kaya Han and French pedagogue Francoise Thinat.
During his time in France, Wayne regularly took masterclasses with Olivier Cazal and Cecile Wang. They have been a profound inspiration to him, radically challenging his conception of music and giving him the ability to find and shape his identity. He obtained the Music Diploma of the State in 2012, the highest French diploma offered by the Conservatoire de Fresnes.
In 2014, he went on to win the 3rd prize at the Thailand International Chopin Piano Competition. In addition to piano, Wayne also holds a Grade 8 Distinction in Classical Singing.
