A proponent of the music of Chopin, Mozart, and Franck, pianist Xiting Yang prides herself on being passionate yet professional, with a focus on a penetratingly beautiful tone. Her honest and direct interpretations of solo piano literature range from the standard repertoire to the premiers of new works.
Xiting has claimed top prizes in numerous solo piano competitions including, Schumann International Piano Competition Southern China Division; Chong-Sin International piano competition in Singapore; Indianapolis MMC Scholarship Competition; Edward Auer Piano Workshop Concerto Competition and the Indiana University Piano Concerto Competition. Most recently, Xiting was invited to perform on the University of Florida WUFT classical radio program Magnum Opus with Richard Drake.
Xitings repertoire ranges from the great standards of the piano repertoire, including Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin, to contemporary works by written by fellow musicians. During her time at Duxbury Music Festival, renowned pianist John Perry commented on her performance of Chopins Barcarolle as having a vastly colorful sound and deep emotional expressiveness. After having performed under the baton of Maestro Arthur Fagen, Xitings performance of the Mozart C Minor Piano Concerto is described as professional with true artistry. She has also given premieres of solo piano and ensemble works by students in Indiana Universitys composition department. The composer Ian Clarke described Xitings performance of his work Little Clouds of Possibilities as a performance that identified with the music on a supremely human and personal level.
While a student at the Affiliated High School of Sichuan Conservatory, Xiting was a contracted artist of Chengdu Yamaha Company and performed a recital sponsored by Yamaha, playing the works of Chopin Beethoven and Liszt. Her former mentors include famous piano pedagogues Wang Yan and Zheng Da Xin.
Xiting finished her undergraduate study at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music under the guidance of Edward Auer and is now living in Houston, where she is pursuing her masters degree in piano performance at Shepherd School of Music under full scholarship with Dr. Robert Roux.
