Being awarded her Master's degree in piano accompaniment with Distinction (mark: 94, the highest mark ever in the department) from Royal Academy of Music in 2016, prize winner Yi-Shing Cheng is an active chamber pianist who has played with many outstanding instrumentalists, singers and her piano trio, Trio Opal.
She has over 15 year experience in accompaniment for choir, singers and instrumentalists. As the winner of the intercollegiate piano trio competition, Prestigious Royal Academy of Muisc Patron's Award, the Wilfrid Parry Prize Brahms duo competition and the Rex Stephans Schumann Lieder Accompanist Prize, she has performed several times at the Wigmore hall and been broadcast on BBC radio 3 with singers. Since 2014, she has been based in London, giving regular recitals in the U.K., France, Norway and many other places.
Her performances have been described as having a striking nobility and humility with an outstanding range of colours and texture, but above all a great sincerity and without exaggeration, and also "careful control of tone colour and dynamics, and great sensitivity to the ensemble.......we are struck by both the flexibility and energy of [her] playing."
I am available for recitals, ABRSM and Trinity exams, choral accompaniment, competitions, auditions and anything else.
