I grew up in Billings, MT and started playing the piano at age seven.
I attended Oral Roberts University, Tulsa, OK as a music major, piano performance, and studied with Betty Knott from 1974 - 1976. Despite a high GPA, the financial realities of life intruded and I had to leave school and go to work full time. Post college, I spent four decades working in the financial services industry, retiring at the end of 2021.

For the past 10 - 12 years, I have studied with Montana recording artist and pianist, Philip Aaberg. Initially, I had to travel to work with Phil about once per year. Over time, his schedule changed, technology advanced and we now do lessons over Zoom about every three weeks. I have delved back into more classical repertoire now that I have the time to really practice. Prior to that I studied with Darin Niebuhr for approximately ten years.

Despite a demanding work schedule, I kept playing the piano and studying. I have played for many local fundraising events, Christmas and birthday parties, local theatre productions and even at a piano bar for one summer. Since retirement, I have been playing for several local churches. I have accompanied various singers and choirs. While the acoustic piano is my preferred instrument, I enjoy working with digital keyboards as well.

I generally perform an annual recital for friends and family. In 2021, I decided to have my recital recorded and that is the one available on YouTube. While it was to have been a live performance, the sound engineers experienced equipment difficulties and the performance was recorded later in a casual setting. That solo YouTube video is a snapshot in time for me as to where I was and what I was playing while still working full time and has allowed distant friends and family to see/hear me play. While I have performed other recitals since then, I have not hired anyone to record them.

While my musical tastes are eclectic and I enjoy playing many different types of music, I would not describe myself as a jazz musician. My interests are in continuing to learn and grow musically and connect with other musicians. I would be very interested in an accompanying a choir and/or being part of a small musical ensemble.
